BOOK REVIEW - Revelation Commentary by Pastor James W. Knox

    FOUR STARS ****

    Christ-Honoring Commentary on REVELATION

    James W Knox

    Soft Cover / 640 Pages

    From the author's website:

    "
The third volume of The Christ-Honoring Commentary Series is actually two books in one. In Book One the reader will study end-time prophecy by themes. Brother James’ chronological presentation of God’s plan for the end of the ages contains a concise, yet thorough unfolding of the church age, the tribulation, the second coming of Jesus Christ, the millennium and eternity. Thousands of cross-references will enable the serious Bible student to mine rich treasure from the prophetic scriptures. Book Two contains word by word commentary on the entire book of Revelation. Minute detail and clear explanation of every verse make this commentary a must read."

The problem with the vast majority of commentaries out today is that they correct the text instead of letting the text correct them. You will not have this problem with Brother Knox. James Knox is a bible believing Pastor, a soul winner, and a good Bible Student.

As the description says, the first part of the book is an overview of prophetical matters. If you are in need of something that will 'put the pieces together' in the area of prophecy, this will be especially helpful.

The second section is a verse by verse exposition of the text itself. Knox adds much that i have not read elsewhere and you will learn a great deal from what he writes.

    Criticisms:
    • Knox does not include the actual verses in their entirety. This makes it a bit inconvenient if you want to see the actual text. Many times, the reading i do is in the  car, on a bus, or in other places that do not make it feasible to have 2 books open.
    • Knox (on rare occasions) skips portions of verses and sometimes entire verses in his exposition. To me, a verse by verse commentary is just that - every verse covered.
My main criticism is in style. Brother Knox has a degree in journalism i believe and I was disappointed that the format was not cleaner.

Overall, this is a very worthwhile read.
